This is it people; squeeze in those precious last barbecues and warm weather camping excursions. It has been a great Summer; we signed three new authors, we are working on designing a more interactive website and have recently expanded our social media platforms to reach an even larger base of readers, authors and industry folks.

We would like to thank our readers who have kept our books ranked among the bestsellers on Amazon: John Ferak’s BODY OF PROOF and Kevin Sullivan’s KENTUCKY BLOODBATH remained number one bestseller in multiple true crime categories for weeks after being released, while Bradley Nickell’s REPEAT OFFENDER was the top reviewed true crime book.

Readers who subscribe for our free membership will receive the publication once a month, granting them access to exclusive content from authors and experts in our expanding genres, as well as advanced notice of contests and giveaways. Don’t forget to subscribe if you haven’t already!

Amy Leigh Simpson is a recent addition to the team, penning genre-crossing books for fans of romance who like a dose of suspense.
Winston Ball and Michael Cordova of well.org will be putting out a new book that looks at issues of health and wellness in society through stories of personal resilience to advocate for a more holistic whole-person approach to health and wellness.

Amy Leigh Simpson

“What I’ve learned in my relatively short life as a writer is this simple truth.
A writer is first and foremost a reader.”

This month, we are highlighting WildBlue Press rookie author, Amy Leigh Simpson. This mother of three somehow finds the time (in the wee hours of the night we hear) to write books. Amy is currently focused on a cross-over romance/mystery genre, and will be releasing her first book with WildBlue this Fall.

We wanted to know more about how Amy found her calling and why she likes to write romance. Amy, ever humble, witty and forthcoming had this to say:

One of Amy's young readers

One of Amy’s young readers

“What I’ve learned in my relatively short life as a writer is this simple truth. A writer is first and foremost a reader. And furthermore, an author is merely a writer who refused to give up. You can study craft books and take writing workshops until you’re cross-eyed and arthritic, but nothing can hone your skills like the relentless reading of fine fiction. The common denominator between us from the novice to the most accomplished of word-weavers is the hopeless love of story.

I realize not all readers become writers. You need a certain kind of delusional/whimsical/masochistic personality to bleed your heart for all to see and willingly submit your tender underbelly to razor sharp criticisms, but the love of story is just that powerful. Compulsive. And so beautifully freeing. You don’t necessarily write because you can. You write because you can’t not.

I can’t imagine who I’d be if I hadn’t re-invented myself as a writer, soon to be “author,” some four years ago. I was not born into this. It was never my plan to follow this dream. I didn’t even like reading—(blasphemy, right?)—until college. But once I caught the bug it all changed for me. Even the way I saw the world, right down to the most minute detail, was a new exploration. It was, and continues to be, incredibly enlightening.

But it all started with a book. Just one beautiful a voice in the windwork of fiction that took me away…The novel by Francine Rivers called A Voice in the Wind is still a favorite. It moved me in the way only the best fiction does. And maybe someday I’ll write something great enough to become someone else’s reader-maker. But for now, I’m just in love.

So what about you? Do you remember your reader-maker?”

Read the rest of Amy’s piece, The Reader-Maker, here and look for her new book coming this Fall!
