From the author of FIRST DEGREE RAGE: The True Story of ‘The Assassin,’ An Obsession, and Murder comes the ongoing and chilling true crime saga of L. C. Underwood, the obsessively jealous police officer from North Carolina. Underwood shocked an entire city with his reign of terror in the lives of his ex-fiancé Kay Weden, a woman he refused to let go, her son Jason whom he despised, and her mother Catherine Miller who got in his way.
In FIRST DEGREE RAGE, Underwood arrogantly evaded justice for his heinous crimes until Detective Paula May and her investigative team uncovered who he really was. Because of their efforts, he was convicted for First Degree Kidnapping and Murder of Viktor Gunnarsson, Kay’s new boyfriend. But was Underwood also responsible for the brutal murder of Catherine Miller that occurred mere days after Gunnarsson’s demise?
Sentenced to life in prison plus forty years, Underwood has no intention of staying in prison and vows not to stop until he exacts revenge on those he blames for his current predicament. His thirst for revenge will not be quenched until more blood is shed. Underwood rages on, plotting his next move, enlisting others to perform the evil deeds he imagines. Wreaking havoc in the lives of Kay, Jason, Detective May, and others, he sends them all on an emotional roller coaster ride that never seems to end. Will they ever find peace? Will Catherine Miller’s murderer ever be brought to justice? Will Underwood’s reign of terror ever be stopped?

The first book was a true thriller while being a true story. I have a tremendous amount of insight and personal knowledge of the story. I knew Kay throughout high school at West Rowan, worked for her father at Salisbury Sporting Goods, and mowed their lawn in Westcliff as a teenager. Later, we reconnected after her mom, Mrs Miller, was murdered and before Underwood was arrested. We dated for several months and her son, Jason, worked with me part times. I was followed by Underwood during this time and even had suspicions of him having “his possible accomplices stalk me and show up at my home. I was involved in law enforcement at the time. I had personal knowledge of most of the officers in each department that was involved in the whole ordeal and investigation. My 1st cousin, James Thomas (Tom) Rusher was the DA that prosecuted L C Underwood. Having this first hand knowledge gives me great appreciation for the accuracy and detail that the author relays in her writing. A great book and I am looking forward to receiving the sequel. Great job, Paula.

One of the most interesting books that I have ever read. I have tremendous insight as I was a friend of Kay Weden from elementary school onwards. We dated after the death of her mother. I feel that I was also an intended victim of L C Underwood as he and his accomplices stalked me on several occasion, once while Hason was with me and other times at my farm in Gold Hill. My cousin, Tom Rusher prosecuted the case in Wataguha County where Underwood was found guilty. There was way too much of a story to cover in just one book. I am looking forward to reading the sequel, RAGING ON. It is available on Amazon July 14, 2022. Mine is on the way.
