As Mullin’s mental health deteriorated, his drug and alcohol use escalated. His birthday coincided with the 41st anniversary of the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. He believed he was born as the chosen one, destined to prevent another deadly California quake. Mullin claimed that the blood shed during the Vietnam War had forestalled the quake. However, with the war ending, he believed more blood had to be spilled to prevent an ominous natural disaster. (Photo: media.tumblr.com)

In March 2005, Mullin was denied parole on 3 objections:
1. Because of the cruel and callous manner in which he carried out his crimes. (Most kills were considered rage kills/ over-kills.) 2. The fact that Mullin has yet to accept responsibility for those crimes. 3. The continuing danger he still poses to society. Robert Reldan ("The Charmer") was in trouble with the law as a juvenile. His infractions included theft and assaults on women. Medical professionals categorized him at age, 17, as having a narcissistic personality and a "strong repressed hostility towards women". Due to his wealthy aunt’s influence and his All-American boyish looks and charm, many of his crimes were minimally punished by the courts or completely ignored. Mug shot 1967(Photo: NJDOC)

A fifth member of the family, a 9-year-old son, was the only survivor. That child was shot 7 times and left for dead. Sly revealed details that only the killer would know. (Photo: FLDOC)
