When I lived in Texas, one of my favorite places to visit (besides the little Mexican food family-owned restaurants) was Half Price Books. When I moved away, I said “goodbye” to Half Price stores (and the restaurants). So when I drove past the new Half Price store in Bowling Green, Kentucky I loved life even more. And I am excited to announce the store will be hosting my premier book signing for “She is Evil!”
Half Price started in Dallas in 1972. Ken Gjemre escaped the corporate world and fellow bibliophile Pat Anderson joined him in opening a used-book shop in an old Laundromat. The flagship store remains in Dallas (sans Laundromat). I used to spend hours going shelf to shelf, usually splitting my time between art, history, biography, and – of course! – True crime. Sometimes I would wonder, “What would it be like to see your own book on the shelf?”
Half Price Books is all things I love about reading. There is that wonderful “book smell.” Everyone who works there obviously loves their job, and they know exactly where to find what you want. The goods are neatly categorized, or you can just wander the aisles perusing books, records, magazines, vinyl, DVDs, CDs, collector’s issues… a feast for the starving bibliophile’s soul. The prices are excellent. And Half Price is dedicated to their community with literacy and environmental support.
Now it has all come together like a symphony for the eyes. I will be signing my new book, “She is Evil!” at the Half Price Book Outlet in Bowling Green, KY. Saturday, May 20, 2017 from noon to 3:00 p.m. This is the first time the signed book will be available. I am so excited to have a store near me, and I am a part of Half Price’s philanthropy. Now I know what it would be like to have my book on the shelf. I hope you will join me in celebrating … maybe someone will bring homemade tortillas?
